Stages of Chronic Liver Disease

Patients with-:

• Fatty liver
• Steato-Hepatitis
• Fibrosis

Fatty Liver is prevalent in 64% of the population in Delhi.Normal ultrasound will only give a grade. However, with attenuation You will get to know the exact value of fat in your liver cells.

The process of fibrosis is dynamic, and studies have shown that a regression of fibrosis is possible with treatment of the underlying condition.

After quantification with the above technique, patients can be grouped into 3 categories:

1. Those with normal elastography values who have a low likelihood of cirrhosis (stage F0 of F1) and may not require additional follow-up.

2. Those in between who have moderate to severe fibrosis (stage F2 and F3) and are at risk for progression of the fibrosis, additional lab investigations / biopsy would be indicated.

3. Those with high elastography values who have a high likelihood of cirrhosis & require different management & prioritization for therapy.

Indications for Liver Attenuation & Elastography

Fatty Liver on routine Ultrasound Elevated SGOT (AST) & SGPT (ALT) Metabolic disorder (Obesity, Hypothyroidism & Insulin resistance) Infections with HBV & HCV Alcohol abuse

How it is done?

It is done in the same way as an Ultrasound but on a high end system equipped with Shear wave Elastography and UGAP software technology. This test may take up to 15-20 minutes to perform. You will not have any pain or discomfort during the test.

Patient Preparation

Patient should come with overnight fasting(10-12 hours). No other special preparation is required.
